Card of the Week: Vanity's Emptiness

Sorry for the long hiatus, I've just been busy and haven't had many ideas for blogs. Thought I'd start off with some cards to discuss; hopefully I'll have more things to write about as the days go by (I'm thinking 1 article a week with one card per week).

Anyways let's talk about a pretty handy, and not very well known, card: Vanity's Emptiness
Neither player can Special Summon monstersDestroy this card when a card is sent from the Deck or the field to your Graveyard.

Vanity's Emptiness is a hidden gem that very few have seemed to discover. It's a handy card that can at least get you a +1 fairly quickly. It locks off all special summons while it's on the board, and if you actually have a beefy monster (Like Rai-Oh or Cyber Dragon) you can probably keep your opponent blocked off for quite some time. You won't want to just flash this card right off the bat, it’s basically asking to get destroyed by its own effect immediately. Chaining it to an effect that will special summon is huge, just imagine getting rid of a Monster RebornLonefire BlossomRescue Rabbit, or Miracle Fusion or just leaving your opponent with a helpless Debris or Tour Guide! Even after your opponent will get rid of it, it’s sure to have done its job. It’s a very powerful card that takes some foresight to use, but the advantage it gives is great. It can get you into a better position and is almost like the now-banned Royal Oppression. It prevent them from special summoning TenguGorz, TragoediaHyperion, even Black Luster Soldier, it definitely has its merits.

However, it still has its disadvantages. With MST at 3 (though usually ran in 2's), theres a good chance it won't stay on the field long, so making sure you only use it when your opponent makes a push is key. You wouldn't want your opponent to get a 2-for-1 with Mystical Space Typhoon for nothing, right? It’s only a common in Starstrike Blast, so it wouldn’t hurt to pick some up. It’s definitely a handy card depending on what deck you use and can turn games in your favor. For now, there might not be that much room to put it in your Side Deck, I personally have trouble fitting it in right now (as much as I do want to run it in some way), but as the format evolves, who knows? It just might become a key card in the future. Until next time, see 'ya!
